Castles, caves, and the best wine in the region!
Just an hour west of Valencia lies the quaint medieval town of Requena, best known for the Spanish wine “Utiel-Requena”, which is widely regarded and some (if not the) best in the region. During this medieval history and wine tour, you will visit one of the dozens of wineries for a full tour of the winery and the production process, finishing with a wine tasting. The wine tour will finish in the historic part of Requena, where we will sample three to five more wines from this region at the town’s wine club.
No visit to Requena would be complete without exploring the small, historic town. Step into the 8th century by climbing the steps of the medieval castle for a gorgeous, panoramic view of the Valencian countryside. For lunch, you will choose from traditional dishes of this mountainous region, which vary greatly from the typical coastal diet of Valencia.
After a short walk around the small town, we will end in the main plaza where we will visit Moorish caves, underneath the old town, used also in medieval times, for wine storage, among other things.
Depending on our timing, we can also stop at the famed medicinal fountain of Siete Aguas, said to cure ailments of all types. Don’t forget your water bottles!
*Please note that this tour includes some walking and stair climbing. Please let us know if you have mobility issues, and we would be happy to customize your tour to fit your needs.
